Statement from Minister Coralee O’Rourke
Every week another 343 women in Australia are diagnosed with breast cancer. Last week I learned I am one of them.
Over the next few weeks, I will take some time off to spend with my family and work with my medical team to undergo treatment and recover from surgery.
After that, I plan to face this challenge like most other Queensland women with breast cancer do – by continuing to get on with my work, which I love. I know I am incredibly fortunate to do this with the unwavering support of my colleagues, particularly the Premier and Deputy Premier who I thank for their kindness over the past week.
My diagnosis comes during Breast Cancer Awareness Month and I hope it serves as a reminder to all Queensland women to remain vigilant regarding their health and get regular scans.
